The Leprechaun
Leprechaun 4: In Space is the fourth entry in the Leprechaun horror film series. Yes, it is set in space, but that is precisely what makes it so brilliant. Leprechaun 4 is a fantastic illustration of how to transform a completely absurd idea into something "unique." The film is loaded with realistic effects, inventive deaths, and hilarious Leprechaun quips that will have you rolling on the floor. If you are a fan of the Leprechaun series or horror films in general, you must watch Leprechaun 4: In Space.
Pinhead
The series' interesting continuation, Hellraiser: Bloodline, also acts as a prequel. The 1700s, the 1990s, and the 2200s are the three eras that the tale takes place in. Let's face it: I'm really just here for Pinhead and the other Cenobites, so I didn't have very high hopes for the fourth episode of the series. Doug Bradley retains that chilly, menacing, and demonic vibe, making it a delight to see him play. Who cares if this is tough to understand and makes no sense? Bloodline is worth seeing even if you've watched Hellraiser in its entirety because of the gruesome Pinhead moments. Definitely give this one a look if you like Hellraiser or any of Clive Barker's previous books. Even if there isn't a lot of logic to it, the trip is quite enjoyable.
Critters
When I heard that Critters 4 would take place in space, I was interested. I mean, how could they top the Critters movies that came before? But (original blog) when I looked at the cast list, it didn't look good. Dourif, Brad? Angela Bassett? And a well-known actor from Denmark named Anders Hove? I couldn't figure out how this would work.
And my concerns were verified when I eventually watched Critters 4. The plot, characters, and setting were all dreadful rip-offs of other properties in a horrible setting. What truly hurts from a fan standpoint is that the very features that made the prior entries distinctive and enjoyable are either entirely stripped away or simply not there at all. Critters 4 is a terrible mess and a major letdown.
Dracula
Dracula 3000 is one of those rare awful horror films that is so horrible it's practically impossible to see. I really dislike Dracula 3000. Even if it's terrible throughout, my primary complaint is that the finale was a horrible cop-out that left me completely disappointed. "Dracula in Space" was supposed to be so awful it's good, but instead it was so bad it was dreadful. The notion is entertaining, but the performance is poor and the conversation is awful. If you want to feel unhappy for the rest of the day, I suggest viewing it.
Also, Coolio. It has Coolio in it. Did I already say that?
Jason Voorhees
The most notorious sequel to a horror film where the bad guy travels to space is Jason X. The person, the myth, the legend is Jason Voorhees. The method through which he entered space is irrelevant. Nobody questions why he is in space. The fact that Jason is in space and prepared to cause mayhem is all that counts.
In my opinion, Jason X is worth watching for easter eggs and callbacks to other Friday the 13th movies, as well as his transition into Uber Jason.
While this movie isn't everyone's bag, it's a terrific viewing for horror movie enthusiasts who adore campy, cheesy, slasher pictures.
